Missionaries and Looting Анотація: In 1900, the Boxer Uprising in China exploded onto the scene as the Government released an edict to exterminate all foreign influence, including that of Christian missionaries. As a result, hundreds of missionaries endured harsh persecution, with many even being martyred for their witness and devotion to Jesus. The China Inland Mission, started by reknown missionary J. Hudson Taylor in 1865, experienced some of the most intense persecution during this uprising. Mission houses were looted and burned, native Christians were terrorized, and the C.I.M. missionaries were beaten, tortured and murdered, "not loving their lives, even unto death." This book details the events leading up to the uprising, giving first-hand accounts of the "perils and sufferings of some who escaped," and includes memorials written by family and friends of the lives of each China Inland Mission martyr. Each page will cause your heart to burn more for Jesus and cry out in prayer for the Gospel to go forth to unreached and unengaged regions of the earth. One can hardly read the memorials and accounts of the sufferings without being deeply moved and more fully aware of the worth of our precious Jesus. As pioneer missionary Amy Carmichael noted, "Count the cost, for He has told us to. But take your slate to the foot of the cross and add up the figures there." This is a book that screams from every page, "Do you consider Him worth this? Is He worthy in this way to you? Will you count the cost and find Him worth your very life?" May the reading of this book stir your heart to love Jesus more, spark in you a passion for pioneer missions, and fill you with compassion for the millions perishing across the nations of the earth.
